Social Media Community Guidelines

The College of Early Childhood Educators’ social media accounts are created for the purpose of sharing College related news and updates; stories from collaborators, partners and members; and most importantly, offer a forum for meaningful conversations related to the early learning sector.

Our content is centred around the College’s mission to serve and protect the public interest by regulating the profession of early childhood education.

For all of us to benefit from the use of this space, we need to ensure that community members feel safe and respected while having their voices heard, even if you disagree with one another.

Please be mindful and consider the following DOs and DON’Ts when engaging with our content and with one another.

DO:

  • Engage with us: We encourage you to say hello, like posts if you wish and share what you think about a post.
  • Show kindness and consideration: From those managing this account to individuals who are participating in the content published, we are all responsible for creating a positive space. Remember that all of us have unique lived experiences that inform our perspectives. We value this difference in viewpoints. We’re all here to learn and may not be at the same levels of knowledge and understanding. Keeping this in mind, embrace respect and have healthy conversations.
  • Stay on topic: To keep the flow of the conversation of the post, keep your comments relevant to the topic of the post.
  • Search first: Before posting your question, there might be a chance we may have answered them in previous posts, or you may find answers in our FAQs.

DON’T:

  • Hate speech: Any form of hate speech is prohibited. The administrators of this account will remove offenders immediately. Comments, use of emojis or direct messages (DMs) that attack any of our community members individually or as a group, including College staff, are not welcome. These include but are not limited to, remarks that are defamatory, racist, homophobic, sexist, disgraceful, profanity, inappropriate, threatening, name calling or trolling.
  • Selling products or services / soliciting personal business: This space is dedicated to informing members, partners and the public about the work of the College; sharing information that promotes the enhancement of the profession; and providing a space for community interaction. We prohibit any personal advertising or promotion of products/services, posting links to third party sites and promotion of events using our platform.
  • Disrespect: Everyone is entitled to share their opinion but practise with respectful and meaningful language. Impolite or offensive language, emoji or behaviour are not welcome.
  • Spreading misinformation: Any information published by a community member that misleads or misinforms the public will be removed.
  • Sharing personal, private or confidential information: Remember, everything you share can show up in Google search results even years later and can be accessed by anyone like your current or future employers, colleagues, etc. Do not post information in comments that you wouldn’t share with a stranger.

What happens if these guidelines are not respected?

The College’s social media administrators actively monitor all activities across its platforms. If there are any violations to the above guidelines, the administrators will take appropriate action in the interest of maintaining a safe community space. This can include removal of an individual from the community, deleting the post, and if necessary, reporting the account to Instagram.

When do we respond?

Our accounts are continuously monitored between 9 am and 5 pm ET , Monday to Friday. We are committed to reading all messages, posts and comments and we may respond when appropriate.

We are also committed to making our information available in both French and English if the platform allows it. The College will reply to questions or comments in the official language in which they are posted.

If your matter is time sensitive, please contact the College by email at info@college-ece.ca or by phone at 416 961-8558. You can also consult our FAQs.
