Section 6: Educational Requirement

It is a requirement for registration that applicants have completed education that meets the standards set out in the Registration Regulation. There are five ways you can do this:

  • Graduation from a diploma program in early childhood education offered by an Ontario College of Applied Arts and Technology (OCAAT).*
  • Graduation from a diploma or degree program, in or related to early childhood education, that is approved by the College as meeting the education requirement.*
  • Current licensure or registration in early childhood education with another province or territory in Canada that is recognized by the College for the purpose of the Agreement on Internal Trade (AIT).*
  • Possession of a letter of equivalency from the Association of Early Childhood Educators of Ontario (AECEO) or the Association francophone à l’éducation des services à l’enfance de l’Ontario (Aféseo) that was issued prior to February 23, 2014.*
  • A combination of education and work experience that is assessed under the College’s individual assessment process as meeting the education requirement for registration.*

*Important: The Application Form for the Individual Assessment of Educational Qualifications only applies to option (e). If you plan to meet the education requirement by way of options (a), (b), (c), or (d), do not complete the Application Form for the Individual Assessment of Educational Qualifications. You must complete the General Application Form. (See the General Application Guide for instructions for completing that form).

In order to assess whether you meet the education requirement under option (e), the College requires certain information and supporting documentation from you.

  • In Section 7 of the Application Form for the Individual Assessment of Educational Qualifications, you must complete either part (a) or part (b).
    • Complete part (a) if you completed your post-secondary education in Canada.
    • Complete part (b) if you completed your post-secondary education in a country other than Canada.
  • You must also have supporting documentation submitted to the College as proof of the education you completed. See below for instructions and requirements.*

*Important: Under option (e), the College’s assessment process is divided into two phases. The following instructions and requirements for supporting documentation apply to Phase 1. For more information about the assessment process, see Understanding the Process for the Individual Assessment of Educational Qualifications.

Click on an option below for information about how to complete that portion of the Application Form for the Individual Assessment of Educational Qualifications and what supporting documents must be submitted for that option in Phase 1 of the individual assessment process.
