Announcement: Appointment of New Registrar & CEO

Apr 15, 2011

On behalf of the Council I am delighted to announce the appointment of Ms. Sue Corke as Registrar and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the College of Early Childhood Educators (the College). Ms. Corke will assume this position effective Monday, April 18, 2011.

Over the last few years we have made great progress in establishing the regulatory body for the profession. The membership continues to grow, along with the solid reputation of the College in the professional and regulatory community. As the College continues to evolve, the skills of the Registrar and CEO will be critical in managing our operational effectiveness. At the same time, the Registrar will be responsible for navigating the College through a rapidly changing political, professional and regulatory environment that will require proactive and strategic stakeholder engagement to foster constructive dialogues.

Sue Corke brings the experience and expertise to meet these challenges through a proven record of operational leadership, strategy development, customer service, team building, financial management and relationship management.

As Deputy City Manager for the City of Toronto for the last six years, Sue had corporate oversight of various programs including the child care system in the city, which is the second largest in Canada, second only to Quebec’s. This involved responsibility for 57 municipally operated child care centres and purchase of service arrangements with over 740 child care centres. With a career in public service spanning 30 years, Sue has also held progressively senior leadership positions with the Provincial Government including Assistant Deputy Minister and Deputy Minister within the Ministry of Consumer and Business Services.

Sue’s solid experience comes with a strong belief in the role of regulatory bodies to serve and protect the public interest and a keen appreciation for the value of early childhood educators and early learning and care. Given her enthusiasm for the College, she is eager to begin collaborating with the Council, staff and members with a view to delivering results that promote a high standard of early learning and care for children. Over the coming weeks she will begin reaching out to introduce herself and will take advantage of various opportunities to meet with and learn more about College members.

As the College moves forward with a new Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, a special thank you must be expressed to Laura Sheehan who has been our Acting Registrar and, as always, has demonstrated her unwavering commitment to professional excellence and to the College.  Laura will resume her role as Director of Registration and Member Services and will continue to be an integral and valued member of the executive team. I know everyone joins me in expressing our deep appreciation for Laura’s efforts and achievements.

Under the executive leadership of Sue Corke, the College is embarking upon a very exciting new phase of our journey of growth and development. Together there is a great deal we will be able to accomplish to ensure our members and the public are well served.   Please join me and the Council in extending your full support and a very warm College welcome to Sue Corke.

As always, please contact me directly if you have any questions.
