Section 5: Eligibility to Work in Canada

​​​​Only complete this section if there are changes to your eligibility to work in Canada.


It is a requi​rement for registration that members are eligible to work in Canada. The College considers you eligible to work in Canada if you:

  • are a Canadian citizen, or
  • are a permanent resident of Canada, or
  • hold current and valid authorization (i.e., a work permit) under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (Canada) to engage in employment within the practice of the profession.​
​​​In Section 5 of the Change of Information Form, you are to indicate whether there have been any changes to your eligibility to work in Canada. Some examples of changes are:
  • you were a permanent resident but now have Canadian citizenship
  • you held a work permit under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (Canada) but now are a permanent resident of Canada
  • your work permit expired and you have been issued a new work permit under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (Canada)
  • you are in the process of renewing your expiring work permit

If your eligibility to work in Canada has changed, you must indicate the change on the Change of Information Form and submit a copy of documentation related to this change. The College cannot proceed with changing your work eligibility until it receives the required documentation.​


What documentation does the College accept as proof of your eligibility to work in Canada?

  • Submit a copy of one of the following documents as proof of  the change in your eligibility to work in Canada:*
    • Canadian birth certificate
    • Certificate of Canadian citizenship
    • Canadian citizenship card
    • Certificate of Indian Status card
    • Valid Canadian passport
    • Confirmation of permanent residence in Canada
    • Permanent resident card for Canada
    • Record of landing
    • Valid work permit under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (Canada) that authorizes you to engage in employment within the practice of the profession*

*If you are providing a copy of a valid work permit, be sure to complete the consent portion of section 5 of the Change of Information Form. That section asks for your consent to impose terms, conditions, or limitations (TCLs) on your Certificate of Registration that relate to your work permit.​
