Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice Development

On December 1, 2010, the first College Council approved the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice in a by-law of the College as the ethical and professional standards for the members of the College. This by-law came into force on February 28, 2011.

The process to develop the first Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice began in 2009 and included consultation with members and stakeholders over an 18-month period. 

Review Process

As part of its 2015-2018 strategic priorities, the College undertook a two-year review of the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice. The College heard from members and stakeholders through surveys, focus groups and roundtables. It also received feedback from Council and its committees and sought expert advice on:

  • ​Legislation and policy changes in the sector
  • ​Trends in professional regulation and
  • ​​Issues emerging through the College's complaints and disciplinary proceedings.

The second edition of the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice was approved as a new by-law of the College on April 5, 2017 and will come into effect as of July 1, 2017.

In June 2017, all members of the College were mailed a copy of the new Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice
